Finding a therapist who genuinely understands and affirms 2SLGBTQ+ identities can be life-changing. Unfortunately, many mental health professionals label themselves as “queer friendly” or "2SLGBTQ+ allied" without having the training, awareness, or commitment needed to provide meaningful support to that population beyond a general acceptance of existence. Affirming care isn’t just about being “okay” with queer and trans clients—it’s about creating a space where identity is honoured, lived experience is understood, and wellbeing is supported through an inclusive, trauma-informed lens.
